The
genre we have chosen for our trailer is fantasy. Fantasy is a genre that
commonly uses magic or mythical creatures as primary plot elements. The genre
usually is set in a theme similar to medieval times, but this is not always
true in fantasy such as the Harry Potter series. These setting usually result
in the use of swords and magical spells instead of guns and explosions. The
genre itself is widely successful and includes some of the greatest films of
all time, such as The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
We
all decided on fantasy as we all have a keen interest in the genre. Also, the
genre allows us to create an action packed trailer and have a chance to add
special effects.
For the story of our trailer we will follow common traits within the genre, such as use of magic and monsters. For this we will need to analyse current trailers/films in this genre to find some more common conventions that we should follow.
The target audience for our trailer will be ages 12-20 as these ages are most likely to be interested in a fantasy film. As our film would have a 12 rating we have no need to target those aged under 12. It will be mainly aimed at males as they are the primary consumers of fantasy film.
