*Genre Research

As our trailer will be in the fantasy film genre I will look at the common conventions of the fantasy genre. The actual theme of the fantasy genre revolves around magic, super-natural, make-believe and/or exotic worlds. They are commonly set in a similar setting to medieval times but not always.

The plot of a fantasy film usually includes some familiar tropes and conventions. The most notable convention is the idea of good vs evil. The evil characters usually disrupt the world and it is the good guys who most fix the problem and this provides the main plot point. Another convention is a damsel in distress who is usually has a relationship with the protagonist and the evil threatens their relationship. This is the usual reason our hero becomes the one who decides to stop the evil. There is almost always a leader or dark lord who rules over the evil characters and is the main antagonist who the hero must pursue. This all creates a quest for the hero, another fantasy trope.

Magic or the super-natural is also common in the fantasy genre. This also means there is commonly a wizard of such who can use the magical powers for good or evil. Usually the evil has the strongest magic that they are using against the good.

The setting of a fantasy film commonly has a medieval theme or the theme of an ancient world. This usually includes building such as castles and towers. Sometimes this can lead to exaggerated buildings and structures.
